read moreIn late January we put our downpayment on our new metal building. The design tool is great and we made modifications for several weeks. Actually we even made modifications after we purchased our structure. Our sales manager, Alexis Weinhold, is an absolute rockstar. If it wasn’t for her then this review would have went in a different direction. I hope you read these Alexis and know how happy we are with you. We actually requested another design and quote for another metal structure to be built later in 2024 but needed to see how the first build would go.
After our purchase we had a concrete company lined up to pour or slab and get the plumbing in. There was a little backlog with customers requesting concrete work and our farm is in a rural area. We were expected to have the slab poured in May and get on the schedule for Titan to come out shortly afterwards to do the build. In March we were called and asked if we were ready for the build. Knowing that we were on the schedule for mid to late April for our slab to be poured, we weren’t ready. However we told them that we could be ready if they needed us to be on the schedule. The answer was yes. We contacted our concrete guys and told them the shift in the build.
For us to jump ahead of 6 other customers, our concrete guys revised the quote and we paid the extra $5k. The first week of April our slab was poured and we were ready within a week. And then the communication nearly stopped with Titan. We didn’t get on the schedule. Not in April. Not in May. Not in June. For every 6 phone calls and texts that we sent we got 1 in return. Late June we were told that we would get a date by that Friday for our build. Nothing back.
We were at our wits end. We paid extra money for a quick turn around on our slab pour for nothing. There was limited options so we reached out to Alexis and others. Was able to talk to someone and they said they would get us on the build calendar in July.
Just like that we got a date on the calendar. I took a week off of work to be there to ensure nothing would go wrong or if the crew would have any questions. No show. Tried to get back in touch with someone and no communication. In late July the original point of contact sent a text asking how the build went. They didn’t even know it didn’t go. She apologized and said she would call me on Monday to discuss the matter. Nothing back.
In August they stated we were back on the schedule for the week of the 18th for install. Not counting on this date as definite, I took PTO again to be there. This PTO would be nonpaid and just an absence without pay. NO SHOW! At this time we contacted Alexis to see if we can cancel our order. Unfortunately we would have lost our deposit if we cancelled. So we decided to stick with it and see it through and see what we can do on the backend of this build. We were contacted again to get on the schedule in early September. Low and behold the crew finally arrived. Unpaid PTO again for the week.
The build. The crew that showed up were 3rd party vendors from what we could tell. We were hesitant and cautious. The build team was great! They measured, and cut, and laid out the building. The quality was great and they worked long and hard. We didn’t have many complaints for the build team as they were following the specifications.
Some things that we tried to get resolved during the build process. The doors and windows didn’t align perfectly with what we had planned for. Some shifting in our plans due to braces and such had to be shifted. Now we laid all of these features out in the Titan 3D configuration online but when it started being built, some things were shifted around. This did affect how our interior layout would go. Especially how the kitchen and the stairs leading to the loft were laid out. Those plans had to change. The rest were minor changes on our end.
The color of the wainscoting was off. We contacted Titan when we noticed this discrepancy and they stated that the colors do differ in sunlight. Not a chance. We ordered a specific color (light green, blue, tan mixture) to go with our theme but ended up with a tan/light brown wainscoting.
The windows are horrible. Don’t order windows. Order the cut outs and purchase and install them yourself. The windows cost us $350 each and you can pick the exact same ones up at Lowes or Home Depot for $75-$95 each. Very cheap, single pane, non-insulated windows.
The doors were good quality and pre hung. We ordered 3 doors. However, there were 2 different style doors installed. The front door was different than the garage door and back door. The front door didn’t close all the way and I spent some time removing it and getting it aligned correctly so it could be closed and locked.
The rest of the build and the quality of materials were good. The crew spent a lot of time on site which I thought would be a quick 2 day build. It took them 4 days and it is noteworthy saying that they ensured everything was just right. The lead build team guy probably had some quality production in his previous jobs as he was constantly measuring, aligning, shifting, and ensuring everything was straight and square.
Overall I would give Titan a 2 out of 5 for this build. Alexis was magnificent, the build team was great, but the lack of communication destroyed us from ever ordering from Titan again. We wanted to give them a great score. But after spending $5k to rush our concrete slab, taking PTO for a no-show build, taking non-pay PTO 2 times to finally get the build complete, we couldn’t see giving them a favorable endorsement. Even their website says the install will be completed in 3-6 weeks from the time the site is ready. Now if Titan would have contacted us and apologized and given us some money back for our time, frustration, and their failure to plan, then this could have been a great endorsement. But that never happened.
